About Turnip
Turnip connects urban community gardeners and provides a space for information, connections, and communication. We provide a space for chatting with community gardeners to ask for help or find ideas, crowdfunding community gardening projects, and providing a market space for backyard growers and community-restaurant sales.
In addition, we allow community members to monitor local community gardens to maintain security and see progress. Finally, we provide a database of information on what grows in each region, when to plant, companion plants, and other important information.
User Personas and Onboarding/Flow Diagrams
We wanted to showcase the different types of users that Turnip may have, so we created two user personas. One is a casual gardener that is looking to learn more, and another is more of an expert gardener who is very involved.
One issue about our app prototype we wanted to tackle was usability. Who would want to use an app like this?
In this app prototype, we wanted to create something that can apply to both people just interested in community gardening and experienced gardeners. We wanted to create Turnip to be not so simple that experienced folk would get bored, but also not too complicated where beginners get deterred.
Onboarding Flow Diagram
To have the prototyping phase go smoothly, we created an onboarding flow diagram that maps out how the app will work for a user.
These steps are what the app will take in order to best determine how to work for the user. It will ask questions about the user’s experience and can give the appropriate information based on the answers.
